Tottenham scout publicly reveals interest in goalkeeper then resigns

A potential goalkeeper transfer target was leaked by a Tottenham Hotspur scout during a recent TV interview. Jeff Vetere spoke to the South American network Win Sports TV during a visit to Colombia. During the interview, Vetere spoke about the north London club’s interest in signing goalkeeper Kevin Mier from Nacional.

Vetere praised the Colombia Sub-23 goalkeeper

The interviewer asked Vetere directly if he was tracking Mier while he was watching matches in the area. The Spurs scout did not hesitate in his response. “Yes, I went to Medellín to see the Nacional game over the weekend,” Vetere said. “I was very impressed by the goalkeeper because of his attributes. He is young. He was born in 2000, so he is only 22 years old”.

“I see a goalkeeper who does not lack anything to cross the pond,” continued the scout. “We are looking because it is our task to see who are the best youngsters for international football.”

“Taking advantage of my stay in Colombia, I took the opportunity to go there (National) and meet a goalkeeper who is important to me. I think he will soon play in the national team. He has things, to me, they are not normal for a boy his age. I was surprised by his confidence and his handling of the ball”.

The goalkeeper’s interest in the Tottenham scout is not surprising

Spurs could certainly use some new blood in the goalkeeping position. After all, the two best players in the position are 36 and 34. Starting goalkeeper Hugo Lloris is also injured. Both Lloris and backup Fraser Forster will only have one year left on their current contracts at the end of the season.

Vetere’s announcement about Mier did not excite the club. Team officials called an emergency meeting about the scout disclosure and reportedly planned to put Vetere on probation. Instead, the scout resigned from him at the club.

The Spurs signed Vetere in September thanks to his friendship with Spurs general manager Fabio Paratici. The scout previously worked for Real Madrid, Newcastle, West Ham and Aston Villa. His last role with a club before joining Spurs was as Birmingham’s director of football.
