Milner on confidence issues as he admits poor performances ‘get us down’

Liverpool have not enjoyed the best of campaigns so far and James Milner has admitted that the mood in the camp is suffering due to the level of performance of recent times.

Speaking to the club’s website, our vice-captain said: “Obviously at the moment with a little lower confidence and some bad experiences, it probably gets us a little more down than it should at the moment, and that’s something to that we should try to fight’.

He seems so far removed from the ‘mind monsters’ of a couple of years ago, now fighting for the results that come our way and it’s a sorry story to hear from our No.7.

Confidence is very important in football and the match against Crystal Palace showed the effect of a heavy loss to Real Madrid and a series of poor performances in the league.

However, we’ve registered seven points in tough games against Everton, Newcastle and our trip to Selhurst Park, keeping three clean sheets along the way too, but this clearly hasn’t helped the mood much.

It is important that we stay in the race for the top four and try to secure two big wins against Wolves and Manchester United, games that some pundits have labeled as the ones that will define our season.

Let’s hope the 37-year-old can rally the troops and we can begin to ride out a run of stable results, performances and mentality as we enter the latter stages of this campaign.
