Klopp admits this is a season to forget but Liverpool ‘have to keep going’

Jurgen Klopp has admitted that the current campaign is something Liverpool must forget, but has told his team they “have to carry on.”

The Reds have won every major trophie possible in recent years, but they are fighting for consistency this time around and are six points out of the top four at the moment.

Last night’s goalless draw with Crystal Palace did little to boost morale among the Liverpool squad, especially after Tuesday’s tough loss to Real Madrid, but Klopp believes there are two ways to look at the result.

“We keep going. Look, I see it in your eyes and also in the eyes of the players: it seems that we lost the game”, the German said after the game (quoted by GOAL). “We did not. It is so. We cannot suffer for our own history. That now would really be a joke. This is not going to be the season where everyone gets the history books and says ‘let’s take a look at that season again and again’.

“There won’t be big movies about it and things like this, but we have to go through it anyway. And we will. It’s not always ‘here we win, great, oh now we drop points, oh rubbish’. We have to continue. Take the things and go again, that’s what we’ll do. Nothing really changed tonight. You can look at it two ways: we didn’t win, that sounds negative. We have one more point than before. I think that sounds pretty positive. So you can choose.

If we’re to have any hope of finishing the campaign in the top four, these are the kind of games we need to get maximum points from.

The reality, however, is that we didn’t really feel like we were scoring and players were just drifting through the game instead of stepping up and making the difference when needed.

Many Reds fans have been calling for the club to strengthen the midfield in the summer, but it looks like we need reinforcements across the pitch with our non-existent attacking threat yesterday.

Luis Diaz will return to action next month in what is a huge boost, but it will take some time for the Colombian to get back to his best after being injured for so long.

Let’s hope for a much better performance against Wolves on Wednesday night.
