Jurgen Klopp dealt double injury blow with two players sidelined

Liverpool have received a double whammy with injuries as both Joe Gomez and Darwin Nunez will be sidelined.

Both players were ruled out of tonight’s trip to Selhurst Park to face Crystal Palace.

Before kick-off, Jurgen Klopp said via the club’s website: “Both are injured. So, Darwin had the Newcastle game shoulder problem. [It] trained for the Real Madrid game but then [he] he took another hit there, he felt it again and more, so there was no chance for today. I wish it could be [back] midweek again.

Gómez and Núñez have been constant starters in recent weeks, the latter being one of the standout players in a deflated Liverpool side. He opened the scoring in midweek against Real Madrid with a spectacular backheel, although the tie ended 5-2 in favor of the reigning European champions.

Next up for Liverpool

Their absences will raise concern among supporters as the Merseyside club host Wolverhampton Wanderers at Anfield on Wednesday. Given the club’s current location and form, three points are crucial to their quest for the top four.

Klopp’s side will then take on in-form rivals Manchester United on March 4 and the Red Devils will be keen to secure a Premier League double over Liverpool after picking up a 2-1 win in August.
