Manchester United join Arsenal and Tottenham in Marco Asensio summer race – Man United News And Transfer News

Manchester United head to Wembley to face Newcastle United in the Carabao Cup in an upbeat spirit after knocking out La Liga leaders Barcelona from the Europa League.

The chance to end a six-year silver medal wait could end on Sunday and the current team is a long way from the broken group that limped to sixth in the Premier League.

Much of the credit goes to new manager Erik ten Hag, who has transformed every aspect of the club in less than eight months. And all this despite the obvious weaknesses of the squad.

The right solution could be seen

The current squad is missing attackers who have lost Cristiano Ronaldo to acrimonious circumstances and Anthony Martial’s persistent injury problems.

On top of that, the right winger position only has Antony with Bruno Fernandes having to fill that position due to a lack of reliable options in the squad.

Amad Diallo is on loan, while Facundo Pellistri remains raw and Anthony Elanga much more skilled on the opposite flank.

And that has opened up the possibility that Ten Hag will look to strengthen this position if the opportunity presents itself in the summer.

One player who has been heavily linked this season is Real Madrid’s versatile striker Marco Asensio. Rumors linking him to a departure are on the rise due to the current status of his contract.

The Spaniard’s contract with the Madrid team ends in the summer and no extension has yet been agreed.

And several Premier League clubs are in contact with the player’s intermediaries to gauge the level of interest in a possible move.

Asensio’s summer race in

According to Football Insider, United were joined by current league leaders Arsenal and north London side Tottenham Hotspur in the race for the 27-year-old.

“Arsenal, Man United and Tottenham are fighting for the signing of Marco Asensio in the summer. The 27-year-old Real Madrid star will be available for free in the summer when his contract expires, provided he does not sign an extension.

“Football Insider has learned that the Gunners will compete with Spurs and United for Asensio and all have been in contact with intermediaries about a possible deal,” the report added.

The winger has not started as many games as he would have liked this season, starting just six times out of his 17 league appearances.

The three-time Champions League winner has scored four goals and provided three assists during those outings. And he will be eager for more minutes and could look into possible alternatives in case it doesn’t materialise.
