Manchester United midfield legends Paul Scholes and Owen Hargreaves are of the opinion that Casemiro is not getting the credit and recognition he deserves.
Scholes and Hargreaves spoke to club media where they praised Casemiro and the Brazilian’s impact on the team since his arrival.
Scholes further opined that Casemiro is the closest player he has seen to his former teammate and legendary United captain Roy Keane.
“Casemiro has been really sensational,” said Scholes. “He has a lot of experience, he also won many times with Real Madrid, and he is invaluable for the younger players on the team. He’s almost like he’s a coach on the soccer field.”
“You have seen the difference since he came to the team and what he has done [happen]. He has a lot of experience and I don’t think he gets the credit for the way he plays. He is a very good passer of the ball, which surprised me a bit when you think that he saw Luka Modric and Toni Kroos as the playmakers at Real Madrid.”
“I have also heard many times that he is probably the best holding midfielder as well. I don’t see him as a holding midfielder. He is a Manchester United midfielder as he should be, he gets into everything. You see him up the field, you see him defending, you see him controlling the game at times.”
Hargreaves commented that Sir Alex Ferguson would have loved Casemiro and especially the player’s willingness to always push forward.
Hargreaves commented that Casemiro’s first instinct is always to come forward, in the same way that Scholes did during his time as a United player.
According to the BT Sport insider, Fergie always told her players to pass the ball forward in transition, an aspect of the game that Casemiro excels at.
Hargreaves mentioned that Bruno Fernandes and Christian Eriksen provide the balance that allows Casemiro, who turned 31 today, to thrive.
Like Scholes, Hargreaves also mentioned that Casemiro is vastly underrated and his superior skill set goes under the radar.
The player’s contributions certainly do not go unnoticed among the United fan base.
