Ex-Red claims ‘it’s time for a big reset at Liverpool’

Danny Murphy thinks it’s time for a ‘big reset’ at Liverpool and has hinted that Jurgen Klopp will be extremely active on the transfer market this summer.

The Reds were outclassed by Real Madrid at Anfield on Tuesday night in the Champions League and the dismal performance has strengthened calls for a series of new signings at the end of the season.

The former Liverpool midfielder expects ‘half a dozen’ new faces to be added to the German squad in time for the 2023/24 campaign.

He told talkSPORT (via Daily Star): “I think it’s time for a big reset, I think there will be five or six missing in the summer. I think Klopp knows, Klopp will have the opportunity to fix this and he deserves that opportunity, one hundred percent.

“I think most of the fans are with me on that. Is it easy to get the players out the door? Some who will be in big money? We’ll have to wait and see. But I think he’s looking for at least a half dozen, maybe four out of five at least, probably a half dozen coming in, in the summer.”

Jude Bellingham is the player who is constantly linked with a move to Anfield and Klopp is believed to have made the Borussia Dortmund star his main transfer target.

Manchester City and Real Madrid are also interested in the teenager and it is therefore imperative that we finish in the top four to give ourselves the best possible chance of luring the England international to Merseyside.

In addition to the players who join the club, there will be some who will leave at the end of the season and Murphy has discussed who may be the ones to leave.

“Well, I think there are some obvious ones that are nearing the end of their contracts or their careers,” he continued. “When you have Keita, Ox, Milner is near the end, there are three in midfield, that leaves space then.

“You could probably throw Fabinho in there, depending on how much you could get for him to get someone younger in that role with more energy. It would be three or four spaces in the midfield that would give you carte blanche to bring in new players and attract them”.

Our loss to Carlo Ancelotti’s team earlier this week was worrying.

Although we started the game brilliantly, we didn’t get a sniff in the second half and the La Liga giants played us in our own backyard.

Several reinforcements are needed to ensure that we are back to competing on all four fronts next season and we have a very important summer transfer window ahead of us.
