Carragher fires shot at Liverpool’s Virgil van Dijk after Real Madrid display

Liverpool were the victim of a hammering at the hands of Real Madrid on Tuesday night as the Reds were beaten 5-2 at Anfield in the Champions League.

The defeat was another low point of the season for Jurgen Klopp’s men and means the Merseyside club will now go without trophies for the season unless a miracle happens at the Bernabeu in the second leg.

The display did not go down well with former Liverpool star Jamie Carragher, as the pundit heavily criticized his former club on CBS and shot Virgil van Dijk.

The pundit said via Ben Jacobs: “That was chaotic from Liverpool. Embarrassing. We have made excuses for them all season, but that was a disgrace in that second half. Losing that half 3-0 when you’re attacking the Kops at 2-2 and in a playoff game. symbolic.

“Virgil van Dijk said that he would not enter that back four a few months ago. I think he would take his place right now…”

Van Dijk made the statement jokingly in an interview with Carragher’s friend and fellow Sky Sports pundit Gary Neville, and it is unusual for the former Liverpool star to bring it up as if he held a grudge against the defender.

The Merseyside club’s display was a disaster tonight, but this seems a bit over the top on Carragher’s part.
