Chelsea fans might well need their tin hats too – Talk Chelsea

Graham Potter has reportedly been told to prepare his tin hat for storms, but Chelsea fans may also need to find a tin hat to weather the turbulent times we face!

I must admit I laughed when I saw Matt Law’s second Telegraph article of the day about Graham Potter on Monday afternoon saying that the club had told Potter to get his tin hat ready. All I can do is laugh right now!

Of course, it’s a feeling of how he’s going to come under fire from fans and the media as we head into a very turbulent time at the club. Things are bleak, they really are.

But now I’ve also put on my tin hat and I’m all set!

My take on the whole situation is that just a few weeks ago we were all in the clouds after a fantastic transfer window at the club, and the future was looking really good. That future STILL looks great, nothing has changed.

The frustrations from Saturday are still there, of course. We rambled, and that’s what hurt me at the time. I wanted to see the continued progression of a good performance in Dortmund despite the loss, but we went backwards. That was frustrating and hard to accept.

I understand the calls for Potter to be fired, I do. There are a lot of questions being asked about him now that are fully justified.

But my position is that I have confidence and faith in the owners to make the right decisions for the club at this time. And they see that as an endorsement of Potter. So I’m with them. If they decide to fire Potter, I would also understand and support that position.

This is where I am as of now, I still have some patience. Of course this could change soon and I won’t be afraid to call it what I see in the future. If I ever really feel like Potter needs to go, I’ll say so.

Other than some teething problems in the summer, the new owners have done nothing to make me not trust them or turn them on. They have shown ambition, spent a LOT of money investing in the team and have hired a world class recruiting team to guide us forward. It would be foolish of me not to support them after all that. They listen to the fans and I appreciate that.

Unfortunately, some fans look beyond the human aspects and just want trophies every season. That’s what we’ve been feeding on for the last 20 years, so I get that too. But I’ve been here and I’ve seen it all before at this club, and that’s why I never let these situations get me down. I know that very soon there will be good times again and light at the end of the tunnel.

I feel like great things are coming soon with this club, but we are in a period of climbing some hills to get there. At one point (in January) we get to the top of the hill, and then we have to go down to go back up. The hills will level out soon, I have no doubt about that.

We need results, there are not two ways to do it. The fans have turned on Potter and you can feel that right now. But the club supports Potter, that means I do too. It’s not a blind endorsement from me, I see his problems and I’m not 100% sure he’s the guy anymore. But I’m on this train with the club right now and I’m not going to jump.
