‘Really poor’ – Carragher slams ‘awful’ Liverpool weakness vs Newcastle

Liverpool won back-to-back games for the first time since December on Saturday night when the Reds defeated Newcastle 2-0 at St. James’ Park, but Jamie Carragher was not happy with everything he saw at his former club.

Goals from Darwin Núñez and Cody Gakpo gave Jurgen Klopp’s side all three points, but the performance was unspectacular and if it weren’t for Alisson, Newcastle would surely have been on the scoreboard.

One thing Jamie Carragher noticed while commentating on the clash for Sky Sports was how Liverpool defended set pieces and he was not happy with what he was seeing.

“Liverpool’s defense on set pieces has been absolutely stunning today. Really poor”, said the expert during the match.

He also criticized his former team’s defense: “It’s too easy to get to Liverpool.”

Liverpool’s defensive weakness is something that Real Madrid will try to exploit on Tuesday night in the Champions League, as Klopp is unlikely to be able to fix it between now and then, as it is something that has been around all season.
