British billionaire Sir Jim Ratcliffe has submitted an official offer to buy Manchester United.

The Telegraph’s Tom Morgan exclusively revealed that Ratcliffe, 70, made an offer to the Glazer family before tonight’s 10pm deadline.

Since then, Athletic has corroborated this news.

Morgan detailed: ‘He [Ratcliffe] He has told the Raine Group making the sale that he can be the “long-term custodian of the club” after receiving Wall Street backing.’

Sheikh Jassim Bin Hamad Al Thani issued an official statement to the press earlier tonight confirming that he had submitted a bid for United through his Nine Two Foundation.

Like the Sheikh, Ratcliffe is a childhood and lifelong United fan.

He made his fortune founding chemical powerhouse INEOS and has since invested heavily in various sports franchises, including Ligue 1 side OGC Nice.

The Manchester native was the only party to announce its intention to take control of United following the highly publicized sale decision of the Glazers.

Morgan added more details of the offer through a source close to INEOS:

“His [Ratcliffe’s] The aim is to be a long-term custodian of Manchester United and set the standard for a progressive approach to club ownership.

“As a local born, he wants to bring Manchester back to Manchester United.”

Ratcliffe had made a late bid to buy for Chelsea last year, while also revealing in October that he was keen to get United out of the hands of the Glazers the previous summer.

A figure has yet to be suggested or revealed by any major media.
