Steve Nicol has admitted he is ‘a worried man’ ahead of Liverpool’s Champions League clash with Real Madrid.
The La Liga giants visit Anfield on Tuesday night for the round of 16 first leg with both teams fighting for form in their respective leagues this season.
Carlo Ancelotti’s side sit eight points behind league leaders Barcelona, while the Merseysiders sit ninth in the Premier League and 19 points behind table leaders Manchester City.
“I am a concerned man,” the Reds legend told ESPN (via Inside Futbol).
“You can say that Real Madrid is struggling, but you still expect them to win when they take the field.

“You can’t say that about Liverpool at the moment, you don’t expect Liverpool to beat anyone at the moment.
“That is the pure truth”.
We certainly think Nicol’s fears are a bit overblown.
There’s no denying that we haven’t been good enough this season, but as long as we play at home with the Anfield crowd behind us, we always have a chance.
Klopp admitted he is ‘in love’ with the atmosphere at Anfield after Everton’s defeat on Monday night and we need more of the same against Real Madrid next week.
We owe it to the Spanish after they beat us in last season’s Champions League final in Paris.
Firstly though, we must beat Newcastle at St. James’ Park tomorrow in what will be an extremely difficult game.
