As the dispute over his contract extension with the Ravens continues, Lamar Jackson remains the best player on the trade market. With the possible availability of him, anonymous rumors have been flying. Jackson was recently named a possibility for the Miami Dolphins.
An anonymous NFL executive was quoted as saying, “Maybe a trade of Lamar for Tua would make sense,” the executive said. Logically, the picks would probably go from the Dolphins to the Ravens in either package.
Bye Tua?
From the Dolphins’ perspective, this is a no-brainer. Pairing Lamar Jackson with arguably the most dynamic pair of receivers in the league would keep opposing defensive coordinators up and running. Plus, Jackson’s running ability for Mike McDaniel’s run game would provide an equally terrifying fit.
What would the Ravens need?
Why would the Ravens do this? Though he received some hasty ‘MVP’ buzz midway through the season, Tua Tagovailoa’s shine has faded with repeated concussions and inconsistent play. With Todd Monken replacing Greg Roman as offensive coordinator, there’s a natural fit. Despite this, it would be surprising if Tua served as the centerpiece of a potential deal. With the uncertainty that has dogged him in recent months, it would be a tough sell unless there was a significant shift of capital to Baltimore.
Who else will be involved?
If not the Dolphins, then who? The Falcons, Jets and Raiders are the current favorites, according to Betonline.ag. All three teams would provide big guns for Lamar upon his arrival. Recently, Peter King speculated that the Jets would go after the former MVP if they weren’t able to acquire Aaron Rodgers. “”I think the Jets are going to have a very difficult decision on their hands, and I think they’re going to go after Rodgers if he plays, and if they don’t, I think they’ll at least get their trackers out and seriously consider Lamer Jackson.”
