Manchester United is in the race to sign Independiente del Valle midfielder Kendry Páez.

United are not the only top European club seeking the services of the child prodigy.

Chelsea and Bundesliga giants Bayer Leverkusen also maintain interest in the Ecuadorian star.

Fabrizio Romano reports: “Chelsea are in the running with Man Utd and Bayer Leverkusen to sign Kendry Paez, an Ecuadorian talent born in 2007.”

“Valley Independent midfielder Kendry Paez is highly rated, decision will be made soon,” added Romano.

Páez has conquered his homeland and is widely regarded as the next big thing to come out of the country after the rise of Brighton’s Moses Caicedo.

United were also a big fan of Caicedo, but a transfer failed to materialise. The player eventually moved to Brighton, where he has had great success.

Despite being just 15 years old, Páez has already broken into Independiente del Valle’s under-20 team and is set to make his debut for the team in the near future.

The highly rated midfield prospect appeared for the Ecuador under-17 team, where he made valuable contributions to the team.

He scored three times in five games from midfield, staggering numbers for a central player at such a young age.

A recent report indicated that Chelsea are already in negotiations to sign Paez and that the London club even turned down a £14.8m offer.

If United advance their interest and proceed with a bid to lure Páez, the Red Devils will have to wait two and a half years, until the star turns 18, before he moves to Europe.
