Manchester United legend Rio Ferdinand has urged Marcus Rashford to offer a greater threat from behind and showcase his talents for 90 minutes to become more horrible against him.
Rashford got back on the scoresheet against Leeds at Elland Road with a brilliant header.
His goal against the Yorkshire club on Sunday means the Englishman has scored 13 times in United’s last 15 games since the World Cup.
After the match, Erik ten Hag praised Rashford, calling him one of the best forwards in Europe.
Speaking on his Vibe with Five YouTube channel, Ferdinand said that Rashford sometimes makes it easy for defenders, and this is something he needs to correct in order to speed up a bit more.
Ferdinand commented: “If I’m a defender, I look at Marcus sometimes, and he can make things easier for defenders sometimes in the game. If he offered the threat from behind a little bit more, I think he would be even happier and become that threat from behind still.”
“That part of the game there, his decision-making about whether to go long or short, if he does, makes for an even more horrible player to play against.”
“I think there’s more dominance over the 90 minutes that he can bring when he brings other people into the game because you know he has the pass. We saw that last season, even when he was out of shape, there were still elements where you were like, wow.”
Ferdinand added that once Rashford gets the synergy with other people, he will be able to take on more players and become a dominant force in games.
According to Ferdinand, only when Rashford does this will he enter the realm of being considered a world-class player.
However, the six-time Premier League winner acknowledged that United’s number 10 is close to being considered one of the best in the world.
Rashford will have a chance to add to his goal tally this season when the Red Devils take on Barcelona at the Camp Nou on Thursday.
