Mo Salah says £40k-p/w star has been Liverpool’s best player since January

Liverpool produced their most convincing league display of the year, if not perhaps the season, with a dominating 2-0 win secured against city neighbors Everton.

Stefan Bajcetic turned in another imperious performance in midfield, deservedly earning high praise from teammate Mo Salah after the final whistle.

“He’s a great player and person, he always tries to work hard,” the Egyptian told Sky Sports (via BBC Sport). “Since he started playing for us, he has been our best player, so I hope he keeps that confidence and moves on.

It says a lot about the talent of the 18-year-old who had been keeping both Jordan Henderson and Fabinho out before the Toffees’ visit to Anfield, even more so that the teenager was trusted to stick around when the pair returned while Naby Keita was reduced to a seat on the bench.

Ideally, we have no doubt that Jurgen Klopp and his coaching staff would have preferred to see such a promising young star (reportedly on £40,000 a week, according to Football Insider) gradually bedded down in the first XI to protect him from overdosing. . in the spotlight and the pressures of propping up a dysfunctional midfield.

Ultimately, though, if a youngster looks and plays like he’s mature beyond his years, it would be considered a detriment to his development to remove him from the line of fire.

If Jordan Henderson can also maintain his performance levels against Everton for the remainder of the season, it should help take a good deal of the pressure off of Bajcetic’s shoulders without compromising his confidence levels.

Right now, it seems like we really can’t afford to drop the Spaniard, although it’s a situation that’s in the player’s best interest while the hurdles remain surmountable.
