Tottenham injury crisis worsens after another player ruled out

Tottenham, plagued by blows and inconsistent, suffered another injury during their thrashing at the hands of Leicester. This time around, he’s a player who returned from a five-game absence just a couple of weeks ago.

Tottenham confirmed that Rodrigo Bentancur tore his ACL in the loss to King Power on Saturday. The club ruled out the Uruguayan for the remainder of the season. Bentancur scored the first goal of the game against Leicester, but was injured 15 minutes into the second half.

With Bentancur missing the rest of the season, injury concerns at Tottenham Hotspur continue to grow. Most recently, Hugo Lloris injured his knee in the win over Manchester City. His replacement, Fraser Forster, didn’t make the best impression for Spurs. He conceded four at Leicester. Lloris is not expected to return until the end of March.

Also, Ryan Sessegnon has a hamstring injury from training just before the Leicester clash. His blow will leave the English out of the game for six weeks. Yves Bissouma is also out with injury. The midfielder without a defined calendar for his return.

Conte may struggle with Tottenham’s injury woes

Antonio Conte has not shied away from his expectations with Tottenham this season, and that was before all the injury problems. The loss of a goalkeeper like Lloris and a midfielder like Benatancur will make it even more difficult for Tottenham to place in the top four.

As of now, Spurs sit in fifth place, having played one more game than Newcastle ahead of them. Behind Tottenham, Brighton is four points behind. However, the Seagulls have two games left.

While games in hand are not guaranteed points, it does leave Tottenham waiting. His form has shown the greatness of the club but also its flagrant weaknesses. For example, Tottenham shone against Manchester City and Fulham. Those were two crucial straight wins to get the Spurs back into contention for the top four. However, on either side of those wins are three losses for seven goals combined. Granted, one of them was at Manchester City and the other was for league leaders and North London rivals Arsenal.

Conte takes the first step in this renewed injury crisis at Tottenham in the Champions League. Spurs are on tour at AC Milan on Tuesday before venturing back home for a league game against West Ham United.
