Pulisic to leave Chelsea in the summer, says report

Christian Pulisic looks set to leave Chelsea during the summer transfer window. Sources told ESPN that the United States men’s national team star will be one of many departures with the club. News of a potential move from Stamford Bridge for Pulisic isn’t particularly surprising and could be in the best interest of the player.

The plethora of new signings is not a good sign

The Blues have brought in a total of 18 players since Toddy Boehly and his partners bought the club last summer. This includes 16 permanent transfers and two loan agreements. Boehly was definitely not one to sit idly by and size up the team from afar. The American businessman shelled out a whopping $650 million in new signings this season. Chelsea only managed to earn $71 million in player sales to make a small dent in total spending.

Amongst the plethora of new faces at Chelsea, the club brought in quite a few attackers. This obviously did not bode well for Pulisic, who was already fighting for playing time. Mykhailo Mudryk, Raheem Sterling, Joao Felix, Noni Madueke, Carney Chukwuemeka and David Datro Fofana added to an already packed depth chart at the club.

Pulisic was looking to leave Chelsea in January

Pulisic was interested in moving away from the Blues in January in the January transfer market. However, a knee injury just five days into the month hampered any chance of a potential move. He has yet to recover from the injury and has missed Chelsea’s last five games.

Even before the injury, Pulisic wasn’t getting a lot of playing time. In fact, the American has managed to start just six Premier League games and one Champions League game this season.

The USMNT star will have just one more year on his current contract with Chelsea when the summer transfer window opens. It’s pretty safe to assume the club won’t offer the midfielder a new deal. However, Pulisic will surely have suitors lined up on the market. However, the Blues will certainly have to take a hit on their $73 million investment in the player.
