Chelsea could have answer for lack of goals – Talk Chelsea

Chelsea have lacked goals and scorers lately, that has been clear. And some even debate that we lack a true number nine, especially with the Pierre Emerick Aubameyang situation. And to be honest, he’s a bit worrisome.

Fabrizio Romano tackled it perfectly this morning, really.

“I think it’s not surprising that Chelsea are exploring the market for a new striker, Aubameyang will be gone and they only have Broja,” Romano said.

“Nkunku is not a 9, he is probably going to play behind the striker. But it’s not too soon to know for sure what decisions Chelsea will make about who will be the right candidate.”

He’s fucking too. But should this have been addressed in January? I think it might have been a bit overlooked because of the excitement and the madness of Enzo Fernández. But maybe we need/need one. The midfield was always a priority for good reason and I support it.

On the other hand, we still collectively as a team don’t take enough shots. We constantly try to pass it to the network. This was one of the many reasons why Enzo Fernández was so refreshing in his debut, he really takes shots and is a good finisher.

Whether this is something that needs to be trained or is on the mind of a player is up for debate. But it’s probably a bit of both.

However, what gives me some confidence are the first signs we saw of Joao Felix. This guy was shooting regardless of his debut, and he was very unlucky not to score.

I haven’t seen a Chelsea player take that many shots in years. It was a breath of fresh air and perhaps it could be our answer to the lack of a real nine, at least in the scoring sense.

Of course, Felix is not a nine either. But maybe, if he’s playing, he can at least get close to Kai Havertz and take some of the load off him as a lone nine.

But I do think we could end up regretting not getting a true number nine.

There’s one thing you might think I’m missing here, and that’s the addition of David Datro Fofana. Of course, he has shown some good signs, and maybe the club just trusted him to be number nine? Maybe we’ll look back in a month or so and wonder why we were debating not signing a number nine.

Let’s hope that’s the scenario. But it’s also clear that it’s still raw, so it’s a risk. Hopefully, though, between him and Felix, it’s a risk we don’t end up really regretting.
