Fernandez may have affected Ziyech PSG

Paris Saint-Germain reportedly feel Chelsea may have diverted attention away from the ball a bit with Hakim Ziyech due to being so busy with the Enzo Fernandez deal on Deadline Day.

That’s according to Ben Jacobs, who told Team Talk that Chelsea feel they did nothing wrong in the end, although it seems PSG aren’t entirely convinced that the Ziyech deal got their full attention.

Ziyech has struggled to play regularly at Stamford Bridge of late, and a loan move to PSG might have been just the thing to get him back on the pitch.

Still, Chelsea and PSG failed to get everything done in time, so the Moroccan international had to agree to stay in west London for a bit longer.

PSG will be far from impressed, having missed out on a potentially quality signing, but Chelsea fans might well be pleased to see how much the club was putting in to get Fernandez’s deal.

Enzo Fernández in action for Chelsea

“Chelsea made it very clear on their part that this was not ‘incompetence’, but rather an unfortunate technical error beyond their control. And they sent a minute-by-minute report of how things happened,” Jacobs said.

The PSG resorted to the LFP [Ligue de Football Professionnel] the next day, that they rejected it because they don’t want to set the precedent of allowing players to sign late. It was always very difficult to win that appeal and there was always little confidence from PSG.

“But Chelsea helped with that and provided their version of things to try to see if a technical error could be considered an extenuating circumstance. Unfortunately for all parties, nothing could be done.”

He added: “Chelsea were working on a lot of deals towards the end of the window, and while the club denies that their search for Enzo Fernandez affected anything, PSG argue otherwise and sources believe Chelsea had too much on their plate.” .
