Thibaut Courtois is doubtful for Liverpool Champions League clash

Liverpool might well have been showcasing their seventh European Cup this summer, had it not been for the heroism of Thibaut Courtois in Paris, so the latest news from the Belgian goalkeeper can be greeted with universal delight among our supporters.

As reported by Marca: Thibaut Courtois will undergo tests following an injury sustained against Mallorca and faces a race against time to be fit for the match with Liverpool on February 21 and this week’s Club World Cup matches.

The 30-year-old will be most immediately concerned about missing the upcoming game with Al Ahly in Morocco, but there will be a main focus on getting him back in time for the trip to Anfield.

With the current drop in results and performance level, seeing the opposition score without the imposing Chelsea ex getting between the posts could give us a much-needed boost.

Jurgen Klopp has a big job ahead of him in the hopes of ensuring his team recovers for the Merseyside Derby, but having the Champions League as an added distraction could benefit us.

Some will feel that being knocked out by Carlo Ancelotti’s side could spell the end of our season, but it could also bring to life a team that seems completely devoid of confidence, if we somehow manage to find a way to progress in the competition.

Let’s hope that the absence of their goalkeeper is crucial and that we can finally start our season, even if it’s the end of February.
