Potter not concerned by Klopp’s Chelsea spending comments

Graham Potter has claimed he is not overly concerned by Jurgen Klopp’s comments about Chelsea’s obscene spending since the summer.

The Stamford Bridge outfit have spent over £600m since the end of last season with the Blues’ most recent arrival, £107m man Enzo Fernandez from Benfica.

The former Brighton boss is aware that his entire team will have to get used to all the talk about Todd Boehly and his extreme financial backing.

“It’s not just Enzo who will have to get used to it, it’s the whole team,” Potter said (quoted by the Liverpool Echo). “It is normal because we have spent the money we have spent. The media are not going to let that go unnoticed, so the whole of football will be singing that song, that’s for sure.

“Everyone is entitled to their opinion. It’s a free world, it’s free speech, which is good. [Pep Guardiola and Jurgen Klopp] They are entitled to their opinion. I don’t worry too much about it. They have the right to speak. And that’s fair enough.

Klopp was asked about Chelsea’s spending recently and joked that he would only comment on the situation if he were with his lawyer, while Manchester City manager Pep Guardiola has admitted that Boehly spending the money is none of his business.

Comparing his club’s spending to Potter’s team is unfair because they have really taken it to another level this season, but Liverpool are in dire need of new signings to bolster Klopp’s team.

Jude Bellingham, who is expected to cost over £100m in the summer, is the Reds’ main transfer target, but it seems more than one signing is needed to break us out of our current rut.

With attractive offers from FSG for a full or partial sale of the club, it will be interesting to see the type of transfer deal we will complete in the summer.
