Biggest transfer deadline day deals completed on final day

Tuesday’s January transfer deadline day did not disappoint. There were quite a few massive deals in the closing moments of the window. Chelsea acquiring Enzo Fernández and Arsenal’s purchase of Jorginho headlined the transfer day. However, there were quite a few transfers that happened on Tuesday.

Joao Cancelo – Manchester City to Bayern Munich (loan, $76 million buy option). In one of the most surprising plays in the showcase, Cancelo becomes a Bayern player. The relationship between the player and City manager Pep Guardiola seemed to sour, paving the way for the mass move.

Marcel Sabitzer – Bayern Munich to Manchester United (loan, no purchase option). The Red Devils had to move fast to get a replacement for the injured Christian Eriksen. The Dane will be out for a few months due to an ankle injury. Sabitzer is leaving for United on a direct loan deal until the end of the season.

Pedro Porro – Sporting to Spurs (initial loan, $49 million permanent move in summer). It has become clear that Antonio Conte has wanted a new right-back and he finally gets his man. Matt Doherty and Djed Spence have both moved away from the north London club on loan due to the arrival of Porro.

Vitinha – Braga to Marseille ($32 million). Although a transfer to Southampton was at stake, the Portuguese forward chose to go to Marseille. Vitinha has scored 13 goals in total this season for the second-placed team in the Primeira Liga. The French club were able to jump to the front of the line by offering Braga more money than the player’s actual buyout clause.

Kamaldeen Sulemana – Rennes to Southampton ($27 million). The speedy winger has opted to join the Saints over Everton. Southampton needed to make a splash in the January transfer window and they broke their bank to get it. The bottom Premier League club also signed Paul Onuachu from Genk.

Keylor Navas – Paris Saint-Germain to Nottingham Forest (loan, no purchase option). The three-time Champions League winner will now head to mid-table side Forest for the remainder of the season. Dean Henderson, Forest’s first-choice goalkeeper, is currently sidelined with a thigh problem. Navas will now slot between the sticks for the East Midlands club.

Hamed Traore – Sassuolo to Bournemouth (initial loan, mandatory summer transfer of $32m). The Cherries made some pretty significant deals this month. They add Traore to the signings of Ilya Zabarnyi, Dango Ouattara, Antoine Semenyo and Matias Vina. The Ivory Coast international can play multiple positions in midfield.

Ayoze Pérez – Leicester City to Real Betis (on loan, without purchase option). Another move that essentially came out of nowhere. Pérez has struggled to get playing time during the current campaign, particularly in the Premier League. Leicester, who brought Tete on loan from Shakhtar Donetsk, surely only made things worse for the Spaniard.

Diego Llorente – Leeds to Roma (loan, $19 million buy option). The Spanish defender has spent two and a half seasons with the Premier League team. Leeds signed central defender Max Wober earlier in the transfer window and signed Diogo Monteiro on deadline day to help fill Llorente’s void.
