Manchester United target Malo Gusto to join Chelsea – Man United News And Transfer News

Malo Gusto is scheduled to have a medical with Chelsea after a €30m transfer fee was agreed with Olympique Lyonnais.

Gusto, 19, will rejoin Lyon on loan until the end of the season as part of the deal.

The French right-back had been linked with United since last summer and has continued to feature in reports about his move to Old Trafford this January.

Erik ten Hag was keen to bolster his options at right-back over the summer given Aaron Wan-Bissaka’s insecure place in the squad and Brandon Williams’ lengthy spell of injury.

The French youngster emerged as a target due to his attacking style and ability to play in various areas of the pitch, two aspects that fit Ten Hag’s total football ideals.

As part of an astronomical transfer window sweep, Todd Boehly is poised to make Gusto his newest signing, according to various media outlets.

RMC Sport’s Fabrice Hawkins has reported that Gusto has already arrived in London ahead of his medical at Chelsea.

He will remain in Ligue 1 until the end of the season at Lyon, where former Red Laurent Blanc is coach.

With a terribly tight bank balance, United will have to wait until the summer to make any more significant moves in terms of incoming players. The Glazer family seeks the full sale of the club.

Although reports suggested United had asked Gusto to wait until the summer, Chelsea have used their rivals’ insecure and precarious financial and property situation to convince Gusto that the pastures are cooler in London.

The upcoming expiry of César Azpilicueta’s contract (June 2024) and Reece James’ injury problems would also attract Gusto’s aspirations to become a starting Premier League right-back.

Diogo Dalot had been one of United’s most impressive and consistent players prior to the World Cup, while Wan-Bissaka has recently re-emerged in the team.

Meanwhile, 21-year-old Ethan Laird continues to earn plaudits on loan at Queen’s Park Rangers in the Championship.
