Juventus target will not renew his contract but Inter Milan is serious competition

Juventus have recently eyed a move for Chris Smalling and the Englishman appears to be headed for the AS Roma starting gate.

The former Manchester United man has done well on the Giallorossi’s books since moving to Serie A and has less than six months left on his current contract.

The defender could trigger a one-year extension under current terms if he plays a certain number of games for the Romans.

However, a report on Tuttojuve reveals that Smalling would rather walk away than trigger an extension to his current contract.

The report reveals that this has encouraged his suitors, but the centre-back is closer to moving to Inter Milan than to Juventus.

Juve FC says

Smalling has been an accomplished Serie A player in recent seasons and the defender could do an admirable job for us.

Juve’s current defense lacks an experienced head as Leonardo Bonucci continues to struggle with his fitness and looks likely to be at the end of his playing career.

However, Inter could lose Milan Skriniar and will be more serious than us in the race for Smalling.

If it is a key objective, we must show that we want it more, but the defender wants a two-year contract. Is it worth that much?
