Mitchell Robinson And Christian Wood Both Suffer Broken Thumbs

Mitchell Robinson of the New York Knicks and Christian Wood of the Dallas Mavericks have been diagnosed with broken thumbs.

The New York Knicks center suffered the injury in the first half of last night’s 116-105 loss to the Washington Wizards. He will miss at least three weeks. Taking Robinson’s place in the starting role as the Knicks returned from the second half last night was Isaiah Hartenstein, who played 13 minutes and scored four points and collected four rebounds. Third-row center Jericho Sims had been left out of the rotation, but it’s likely he’ll see a few minutes coming up. Sims played 21 minutes off the bench for the Knicks last night.

Robinson was drafted by the Knicks in the second round out of Auburn University. He has had an injury-plagued career thus far. In his five seasons as a player, Robinson hasn’t played a full healthy season. The same can be said of many players, but in two of his five seasons he has played fewer than 40 games. However, he is efficient and leads the league in field goal percentage in the 2019-2020 NBA season.

Robinson signed a new extension this offseason looking to be one of the top options off the New York court along with Julius Randle.

However, Dallas Mavericks center Christian Wood’s thumb injury is minor. He is expected to be re-evaluated in just one week. Wood likely suffered the injury while completing a dunk in last night’s loss to the Atlanta Hawks. He was seen holding hands after that play and finished the game with 22 points and 9 rebounds. The injury didn’t seem to affect him too much. Wood has had a season of racing alongside Luka Doncic. He was even talked about a contract extension in the works due to his performance.

Forwards Dorian Finney-Smith and Dwight Powell are expected to get more minutes in Wood’s absence.
