Liverpool sweating on the fitness of Darwin Nunez ahead of Brighton clash

Jurgen Klopp has confirmed that Darwin Núñez is a doubt for Liverpool’s trip to Brighton tomorrow.

The Uruguayan is currently experiencing hamstring discomfort and a decision will be made today on whether to feature on the south coast.

“We are waiting for information,” said the German (quoted by The Athletic’s James Pearce on Twitter). “It’s not a big one, but he’s kept it out of training.”

Since joining from Benfica in the summer, much has been made of the 23-year-old’s performances, despite the fact that he has scored 10 goals and registered three assists in 23 games (in all competitions).

During the FA Cup clash with Wolves last time out, the Uruguay international netted a sublime volley to take his goalscoring tally to double figures and he will be desperate to play the Seagulls tomorrow.

However, unnecessary risks should not be taken, especially when you consider that Bobby Firmino, Diogo Jota and Luis Diaz are also out with injuries.

Judging by Klopp’s comments, the injury to our No. 27 is not too serious and if he is absent tomorrow then he may be back in contention when we take on Wolves in our third round replay clash of the FA Cup at Molineux on Tuesday.
