MLS mandates clubs to provide extensive video content

As part of MLS’s new agreement with Apple TV, each club will post a large amount of video content about the team. That includes player profiles, historical moments, community engagement, and more.

This video content from all 29 MLS clubs is available in the MLS Season Pass. The project is called “club rooms” and offers a behind-the-scenes look at each of the teams before and during the campaign. However, this video content is not necessarily exclusive to MLS Season Pass. Instead, clubs can run it on social media or on their websites, as they have done with content in the past. For example, LAFC aired “” as an in-depth look at the team.

However, the content goes far beyond these ‘Hard Knocks’ style videos and series. MLS requires clubs to produce historical and current content. Also, there should be a video about the team and about the community. Finally, there are monthly and weekly reports on training and academy.

It’s a lot of changes for MLS. However, it will allow fans to be more involved and get to know their favorite club better. Or, at least, it provides an outlet for new fans to get acclimated to MLS in general. Spectators get a full view of each of the participating teams.

Here’s what every MLS team must provide, according to a .

MLS clubs list of video content for this season

Some of the content is on par with what you expect from a team. That includes every postgame press conference for every game, regardless of the competition. Plus, there are weekly updates on what the team is up to in training. Videos must refer to injuries, match previews or other news. Essentially, it’s just an update video to keep fans in the loop, the kind of thing that shows up on Twitter, for example.

Other things are not necessarily new, but the clubs would not guarantee them. For one thing, MLS requires 12 player profiles that have a minimum duration of two minutes each. Rather than get rid of these profiles all at once, clubs space them out throughout the year to keep things fresh. On top of that, there is a focus on memorable players or coaches. Clubs must create five of those. In addition, there are iconic moments that the clubs immortalize. The five-part series looks back at the most memorable scenes from each club. Of course, that will be more challenging for clubs like St. Louis CITY or Charlotte FC compared to LA Galaxy or DC United.

Finally, some things are quite new. MLS calls a new item “The Ritual.” This series focuses on the community aspect of MLS clubs and their fan involvement and various traditions. Similarly, MLS wants clubs to publish a monthly community report to highlight efforts made to improve the surrounding community.

Again, more information will emerge regarding the availability of this video content. However, we know that everything is available from Apple. Expect some of this to trickle down to the clubs’ social media accounts and respective MLS websites.
