Gary Neville slams Manchester United decision which “rules out Rice, Bellingham and others”

Gary Neville has criticized Manchester United’s decision to introduce a salary cap for its players.

The signing of Cristiano Ronaldo, although effective for one season, has had a considerable negative effect on the current Manchester United. The Daily Mail recently claimed that Manchester United have introduced a ‘Ronaldo Rule’, which caps their players’ wages at £200,000 a week.

The goal is to move away from signing players like Ronaldo for astronomical salaries, a sensible decision in some respects.

However, former Manchester United player Neville disagrees with the decision, fearing his club will miss out on key signings.

“Limiting wages is a radical policy. Rule out Rice, Bellingham and others in that group. Any new owner probably wants to be in the running for these guys and probably Mbappe too. 200k won’t get you Rice or Bellingham let alone Mbappe! Said Neville, quoted by UTD District.

Ten Hag understandably wants to introduce a certain philosophy and culture to Manchester United, but with the way football is going, having a salary cap of £200,000 a week isn’t enough.

Manchester United will fall behind their rivals if they uphold this rule. Star players like Rice, Bellingham and Mbappe will be able to get a lot more than United will be able to offer, so there is little point in incorporating the salary cap.
