Graham Potter Provides Injury Update on Christian Pulisic & Raheem Sterling

Chelsea manager Graham Potter has provided updates on Christian Pulisic, Raheem Sterling and Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang after the Blues’ FA Cup loss to Manchester City.

Chelsea faced Manchester City in the third round of the FA Cup, with the latter posting a comfortable 4-0 win over the west London outfit. Manchester City also knocked Chelsea out of the competition in the process.

Against Manchester City, Chelsea conceded their first goal of the game in the 23rd minute as Riyad Mahrez put the defending Premier League champions ahead. Julian Alvarez then doubled Man City’s lead at the half-hour mark, converting a penalty.

Manchester City then established a three-goal cushion in the 38th minute when Phil Foden added his name to the scoreboard. Riyad Mahrez then scored his second goal of the game in the 85th minute to complete Manchester City’s victory over Chelsea.

Speaking after the match, Graham Potter was asked about the latest update on Christian Pulisic and Raheem Sterling, who both suffered injuries during Chelsea’s 1-0 defeat by Manchester City in a Premier League game ahead of their clash of the FA Cup.

The Chelsea manager was also asked why Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang did not make the Blues squad for the FA Cup clash with Manchester City.

Graham Potter confirmed that Christian Pulisic suffered a knee injury and admitted that the USMNT international will be out for ‘weeks’. They have yet to confirm the extent of Raheem Sterling’s injury and have not set a timetable for his return.

“Christian tore up his knee in the game the other day. We’re still trying to analyze it but I would say it’s going to be weeks for him,” Graham Potter said. [via Football.London].

“Raheem had an action in the first minute of the game, a back heel that was a bit weird and he felt something in his hamstring. We are looking at that again. Aubameyang had back problems yesterday, so he couldn’t travel”.

Meanwhile, the two defeats to Manchester City last week, one in the Premier League and the other in the FA Cup, have added more pressure on Graham Potter as Chelsea struggle to recover.

The Blues are already out of the FA Cup and EFL Cup and sit 10th in the Premier League points table, a staggering 19 points behind table leaders Arsenal.
