Cody Gakpo made his Liverpool debut against Wolves at Anfield yesterday and the Dutch international has provided an honest assessment of his own performance during the 2-2 draw.
The Reds’ new number 18 started to the left of Jurgen Klopp’s forward three and while Julien Lopetegui’s side did well to keep him quiet for most of the game, he showed glimpses of his potential and played a huge role in Mo Salah’s goal. which put the hosts up 2-1 early in the second half.
The Dutchman is already eager to earn more minutes for his new team with the FA Cup champions taking on Brighton away from home in the Premier League next Saturday.
“Really great atmosphere. For my own game, I think I showed some good moments and some neglected moments,” the former PSV player told Liverpoolfc.com (via GOL).
“So, I can also improve those points and keep working and try to help the team as much as I can. Of course, you learn more when you play, so I look forward to it. [to more].”

After the two sides failed to break away at L4 last night, a replay will be played at Molineux later this month to decide who advances to the fourth round.
He added: “I think we played in phases very well, but in the end we didn’t score enough, so it’s a shame. But I think we showed what we could do, but we can still improve on some points and let’s work on that. I think we showed real team spirit at times, so that’s good. I think we have to go there. [Molineux] with great determination and go only for the victory”.
While it’s good to see our new signing being positive and looking to the future, our performance last night just wasn’t good enough.
Wolves had a lot of men around them when they got the ball and they didn’t have a lot of room to work throughout the game.
In terms of the rest of the team, just like during our loss to Brentford recently, a lot of our players didn’t perform to the level we know they are capable of and our midfield was too easily outplayed.
Let’s hope we bring in a midfielder or two this month to add to the Gakpo signing, as it’s clear midfield remains our biggest downfall.
