Lopetegui bemused as LFC are handed extra rest ahead of FA Cup clash

Wolves boss Julian Lopetegui has claimed Liverpool have a big lead over his side ahead of their FA Cup clash on Saturday because the Anfield side have had two more days to prepare for the fixture.

The Reds were beaten 3-1 by Brentford on Monday night in what was a dismal display from Jurgen Klopp’s side, while Wolves were held to a 1-1 draw at Villa Park last night.

“I don’t understand how we play in a competition with two days less (rest) than the rival,” said Lopetegui (via Express & Star).

“Maybe one day? That can happen. But two days is a lot. It’s a big difference for us.

“We have to play in three days against a Liverpool that has two more days (of recovery). I’m sorry but I don’t understand this. I do not know why.

Our German tactician has expressed puzzlement in the past over English football’s hectic schedule and you can certainly see where the Wolves boss is coming from.

The Merseysiders are struggling for consistency in the Premier League and were knocked out of the League Cup by Manchester City just before Christmas.

Therefore, it is to be expected that Klopp and his team will be looking forward to reaching the FA Cup once again after winning the competition last year.

Our hopes of a taste of league success look rather dim as we currently sit sixth in the table and 16 points behind Arsenal.

Although we had hoped to challenge on all four fronts again this season, it now looks like a top four place is the best we can hope for.

If we don’t manage to qualify for the biggest competition in Europe, it could have a serious impact on the type of transfer business we will complete in the summer.
