Gregg Berhalter on Giovanni Reyna allegations

Former USA coach Gregg Berhalter issued a statement after being at the center of domestic abuse allegations by Giovanni Reyna’s mother.

Reyna was involved with the US Men’s National Team at the 2022 World Cup, but there was some controversy over his behavior after he was no longer involved with the team.

This led to Reyna’s mother complaining about her son’s treatment and informing US Soccer executives, including sports director Earnie Stewart, that she had serious allegations against Berhalter.

This has led to the 49-year-old issuing a statement explaining his side of the story, admitting that he kicked his wife in the legs during an argument early in their relationship…

Berhalter said: “During the World Cup, a person contacted US Soccer and said they had information on me that would ‘take me down’, an apparent effort to leverage something very personal from long ago to bring about the end of my relationship with USA Soccer.

“In the fall of 1991, I met my soul mate. I had just turned 18 and was a freshman in college when I met Rosalind.

“One night, while drinking at a local bar, Rosalind and I got into a heated argument that continued outside. It got physical and I kicked her in the legs.”

Added Berhalter: “The lessons learned from that night more than three decades ago became the foundation of a loving, devoted and supportive relationship, which we honored and celebrated with our 25th wedding anniversary this past weekend.”
