Liverpool received a boost in the summer transfer window after Chelsea’s talks with Benfica over the potential transfer of Enzo Fernandez officially “collapsed”.
Fabrizio Romano reported on Twitter that the Portuguese giants were not prepared to budge on their mega-assessment of the Argentinian midfielder.
Treatment of Enzo Fernández. As it is, Chelsea and Benfica have not scheduled a new meeting after talks collapsed ???????????? #CFC
Rui Costa always said: €120M [clause] or in no way. Chelsea verbally discussed that with Benfica the official offer was 85 million euros. No deal.

Whether Liverpool, considered fans of the 21-year-old, would be in on that conversation remains to be seen.
We are very interested in Borussia Dortmund’s Jude Bellingham, who is likely to set any interested party back in the region of £130m, which is far from a negligible sum on its own.
The opportunity to arrange payment plans for both midfielders could offer us some hope of completing an amazing double deal for the two most exciting midfielders in the World Cup.
It’s a possibility, although we can’t see it coming to fruition for the club at the end of the season.
