Di Marzio: Aston Villa enter the race for Juventus midfielder McKennie

This winter, Weston McKennie could be one of the stars of the transfer window, with a host of clubs looking to sign the player who has never really been indispensable at Juventus.

With the likes of Nicolò Fagioli and Fabio Miretti rising through the ranks at the club and Paul Pogba looming on his return to the pitch (hopefully), the American has been pushed down the midfield pecking order.

Nonetheless, the USMNT star still has his suitors. A couple of days ago we reported on Bournemouth’s lucrative offer for the 24-year-old. However, it appears the player was not persuaded to join the struggling Premier League as he instead awaits a more prestigious posting.

However, it appears that more English clubs are competing for the services of the former Schalke player.

According to Gianluca DiMarizio’s websiteAston Villa are interested in McKennie, identifying him as one of the players who can strengthen Unai Emery’s squad.

Juve FC says

When McKennie turned down Bournemouth’s proposal, he probably had a bigger club than Aston Villa in mind.

But to the villains’ credit, this is one of the oldest and most successful clubs in English football history, and it seems the current management is hell-bent on restoring the club’s position among the elite.

Obviously, McKennie would prefer to join Tottenham or Borussia Dortmund, but he should certainly look at Aston Villa’s offer.
