Liverpool must swap out Elliott for midfielder with 95 PL minutes

Liverpool’s midfield remains a major dilemma for Jurgen Klopp and his coaching staff despite the corrective work done at the Dubai training ground during the World Cup.

The lack of control and energy has left the club looking extremely fragile, especially when it comes to the defensive output of midfield.

As a result, the highly-skilled youngster Harvey Elliott has seemed a bit lost at times with an undue amount of pressure on the teenager’s shoulders.

With the likes of Jordan Henderson and James Milner remaining on the sidelines, it’s true that we’re barely left with a choice in terms of alternate options.

That said, one man who has recently returned to the fold after a long season with injury, and who could turn things around to some extent, is Guinea international Naby Keita.

The No.8 (who seems destined for the starting gate as things currently stand) has arguably been a breath of fresh air in the midfield department when he’s turned up in limited cameos since the return of domestic action.

Liverpool, Keita, Elliott
Naby Keita has amassed a total of 95 minutes of Premier League action since returning from injury.

The main takeaway has been the greater degree of control provided to the department, a factor that could allow fans to witness something resembling the return of Liverpool of yesteryear until further surgery is performed over the course of the next two transfer windows.

Historically, Keita has been unable to withstand back-to-back regular appearances for the first XI, so it’s not a plan without clear flaws and shouldn’t be relied on without a serious look at our available options on the market.

Manu Kone continues to be a possible option to explore and we know that the club is following his track.

Similarly, Sofyan Amrabat was recently touted as another avenue we could pursue after the Moroccan’s phenomenal World Cup performances.
