Marc Skinner reflects on final WSL game as Manchester United Women prepare for 2023 – Man United News And Transfer News

In an interview with MUTV, Marc Skinner gives an update on the squad ahead of their winter training camp in Malta next week.

He began by reflecting on the Reds’ last league game, their 1-1 draw with City at the Etihad.

“We were disappointed not to take all three points, it was a much more open game than both teams would have liked, but it shows a lot of our attitude,” he said.

“We are not satisfied with having a tie. I think it is a positive step towards the New Year”.

He spoke about the team’s progression as he looked towards the team’s goals for 2023, saying: “Our end product is nowhere near where we want to be.”

“If you think about the last few games, we limited the top scorers to not scoring, Bunny Shaw and Rachel Daly (Aston Villa), who are the top scorers in the WSL this season.”

“We need to get past the small percentages to get those wins,” he concluded.

The Reds ended 2022 with a win over Sheffield United in the Conti Cup, a result that was sadly not enough to knock them out of the group.

United’s main focus going into 2023 is to finish the league in the top three, the coveted Champions League spots, but because of how close this league is, it will require a near-perfect record through the second half of the season.

United head to Malta this week as they look to regroup ahead of the resumption of competitive football.

At the end of the week they play against the champions of the Maltese First Division, Birkirkara FC.

Upon their return they will prepare to face Liverpool on January 15 when the WSL resumes.

It’s set to be a busy month for the Reds as they also look to add to the team in the January transfer window.
