Liverpool secured the services of Cody Gakpo from PSV Eindhoven last week. The 23-year-old attacker has become the first signing of the Reds of the winter market.
The Dutchman has impressed with his performances at the 2022 FIFA World Cup. He has scored three goals in five appearances for Qatar. The Eindhoven-born attacker also won the Dutch Footballer of the Year accolade last season after registering 12 goals and 13 assists in 27 Eredivisie appearances. He too started the current season brightly and recorded nine goals and 12 assists before his move to Anfield.
Gakpo is seen as a short-term replacement for Luis Diaz, who will miss the next three months of action with a knee injury. Manchester United have also shown great interest in signing him in the coming weeks, but Liverpool acted quicker to bring him to Anfield. The 23-year-old attacker will cost the Reds around £40m.

While speaking to the media recently, Jurgen Klopp lifted the lid on Liverpool’s transfer plans.

He said: “I’m here for seven years and every window is more or less the same. We talk about these things as if money doesn’t play a part. “
“I don’t want to disappoint anyone and their dreams, but we sign a standout player like Cody Gakpo and the next thing you read is ‘Who’s next?’ It’s like we don’t have a team.”
Jurgen Klopp is also looking to add a new midfielder to his squad. Borussia Dortmund’s Jude Bellingham is reportedly the main target for the Reds in that regard. However, it is likely that the German club will sell him at the end of the season instead of this month.
Benfica’s Enzo Fernández, Brighton and Hove Albion’s Moises Caicedo and Fiorentina’s Sofyan Amrabat are the other midfielders who have been linked with a move to the Reds in recent weeks.
Meanwhile, a number of players have also been linked with a departure from the Merseyside outfit. Naby Keita, Nat Phillips and Roberto Firmino could leave Anfield this month.
