World Cup-winning midfielder Enzo Fernandez is reportedly about to sign for Chelsea.
That’s according to a recent report by Spanish outlet Relevo, which claims that the Blues are close to reaching a deal with Benfica that is believed to be worth a staggering £115 million (€130 million).
Fernández, 21, was a standout player for Argentina during the winter World Cup in Qatar. The 21-year-old was not only crowned the tournament’s best young player, but his performances, which saw him link up well with the likes of Lionel Messi and Angel Di Maria, have seen his value rise massively.
Widely regarded as one of the most talented young central midfielders in Europe, it seems to be only a matter of time before the Benfica number 13 moves on to a bigger challenge.

Considered Chelsea’s main target this January, Fernández’s potential signing won’t come cheap as the midfielder has a release clause believed to be worth £106m (€120m), and while unlikely for the Blues to trigger the 21-year contract. the old clause, having already agreed on personal terms, a proper structured payment plan should be enough for Benfica to give the green light.
Interestingly, it appears that the Portuguese outfit are keen to part ways with their World Cup-winning star, who has just under five years left on his contract and would welcome a sale as soon as the first week of the new year.
Since joining Benfica from River Plate last summer, Fernández, who also has 10 full caps to his name, has made 25 appearances, in all competitions, directly contributing to eight goals along the way.
