Liverpool striker Darwin Núñez has been compared to former Reds target Timo Werner.
The Uruguay international has come under fire recently after failing to find the back of the net despite numerous big chances in his last three outings, but his work rate and attitude is something that has drawn attention.
Former Chelsea striker Tony Cascarino believes the former Benfica striker is ‘doing everything right’ and will soon be working full steam ahead.
“I would say Nunez’s relentless work rate has been brilliant again,” Cascarino told Talksport (via Liverpool Echo).
“Okay, it’s not clinical enough and he has to become a better finisher, but his work rate was brilliant last night.
“Leicester didn’t like it. I mean [Daniel] Amartey gave him about four or five yards at one point and got past him with breakneck pace.
“He is doing everything right. Okay, it’s not because she’s not scoring. But he is doing everything well getting into the positions to score.

“Don’t stop doing that and I really feel like he’s going to run away, he really will because he has devastating pace.
“Liverpool fans are really enjoying his performances and will appreciate it because they love his attitude, his desire to drive across the pitch and make other people’s jobs easier.
“He does it very well.”
Liverpool linked up with former Chelsea striker Werner before he completed his move to Stamford Bridge in 2020 and after his time in the capital didn’t quite work out, the Anfield team linked up with him again the summer before to return to the RB. leipzig.
The German international had what it takes to succeed in the Premier League, but he did not see produce the kind of performances that once made him one of the best prospects in Europe.
Cascarino believes there are similarities between the former Blues striker and our number 27, but believes the Liverpool striker will have a much more successful career in England.
“Do you know who it reminds me of? Timo Werner,” she added.
“Where he couldn’t buy a goal, his pace was brilliant, he never stopped working hard, it’s a bit like that scenario.
“He feels like Timo Werner, I think there is a little more about Núñez, I think it will come in handy. Timo Werner never convinced me.”
Nunez certainly has you on the edge of your seat: his pace, movement and attitude are spot on, but it’s just his composure in front of goal that has been lacking at times.
However, it is still early days for him in the Premier League, and the hope is that, under the watchful eye of Jurgen Klopp, he will soon find the back of the net on a regular basis.
