Sitting 15 points behind title contenders Arsenal, one might assume that Liverpool’s involvement in the Premier League title race is all but over.
It can all very much depend on the barometer one relies on, of course, given that finishing above Manchester City has, in recent years, been the hurdle teams have had to jump over to clinch the league.
Trent Alexander-Arnold did not go so far as to say that his team has not given up hope of winning No.20, although the reference to the former term certainly suggests a degree of confidence that the club can finish higher in the table than many are waiting.
“Definitely [we feel positive]. As I said, three points is three points, we have put ourselves in a good position,” the 24-year-old told the club’s official website.
“[We’ll] let’s keep working and waiting for people to drop points around us. We’re not even halfway through the season yet, so there are still a lot of games to play. [and] Lots of things can happen.
“We found ourselves in a pretty similar position last year, chasing [Manchester] City at this time of year [when we were] 10 or 11 points behind them.
“But people lose points, no one is going to go undefeated or stop losing points between now and the end of the season.
“Hopefully we’ll be the ones to do that, but it’s unlikely any team will, so we have to make sure we’re in position to attack when teams drop points around us.”
Whether we can see Jurgen Klopp’s men engineer a run past the Gunners remains to be seen, although it is encouraging to see that just eight points currently separate the Reds from the incumbent champions.

However, it’s safe to assume the likelihood of Arsenal dropping points between now and the end of the season, as formidable as that may seem.
Assuming we can get back into the top four and get past the Sky Blues, it’s theoretically possible that we can get back in the title race and set up some tense final games before summer.
The odds are not in our favor, although the point of our No.66 makes it clear that such an eventuality is not impossible.
