Wout Faes scores two bizarre own goals in Liverpool win

Liverpool claimed their fourth successive Premier League victory after beating Leicester City on Friday. The Reds managed to win the match despite neither of their players scoring a goal that night. Leicester defender Wout Faes amazingly scored two own goals in the match.

However, the visitors started well at Anfield. Midfielder Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall put Leicester ahead four minutes into the game. Patson Daka delivered a fine pass to the rushing Dewsbury-Hall, who then sliced through the Liverpool defense like a hot knife through butter. Conceding an early goal has been a problem for manager Jurgen Klopp’s club.

Liverpool back in the game with some luck

However, the Reds were able to recover a goal about half an hour later. Trent Alexander-Arnold played a decent cross inside the visitor’s box and the aforementioned Faes clumsily slotted the ball into his own net. The centre-back tried to clear the pass away from danger, but he sliced up and over his keeper.

As if a massive mistake wasn’t enough, Faes bizarrely scored another goal into his own net just seven minutes later. Liverpool striker Darwin Núñez hit the post with a great scoring opportunity, but the ball bounced off the Belgian defender and into the net.

Faes was arguably the most productive player on the Liverpool pitch, despite playing for the opposite team. The home fans had fun with the defender after the two blunders. The Anfield crowd regularly chanted ‘shoot!’ every time Faes touched the ball in the second half.

Both teams had more solid scoring chances in the second half, but all the goals would come in the opening period. Liverpool racked up an impressive 15 key passes in the match, but were unable to convert any chances of their own.

Núñez had trouble scoring despite great chances.

Darwin Núñez has received criticism in recent weeks for missing out on great opportunities. Friday would be no different. The Uruguayan made seven total shots on the night and missed some great opportunities. However, Liverpool fans will ultimately only care about the three points.

After struggling early in the season, the Reds now find themselves just one point behind fifth-placed Manchester United. Leicester, on the other hand, sits 13th in the standings while playing an extra match compared to other teams around them.
