Jude Bellingham – Former Birmingham City CEO Xuandong Ren has revealed that Jude Bellingham has turned down a move to Bayern Munich to join Borussia Dortmund in 2020.

Borussia Dortmund beat out several top European clubs with the signing of Jude Bellingham in 2020, with the German club landing the 17-year-old from Birmingham City.

Since then, Jude Bellingham has established himself as one of the world’s most exciting young talents. The 19-year-old has also become a key player for both Borussia Dortmund and the England national soccer team.

Jude Bellingham started every game England played in the 2022 FIFA World Cup and was impressive for the Three Lions, scoring a goal and an assist in Qatar. He has also attracted transfer interest from a number of top European clubs ahead of the 2023 summer transfer window.

Xuandong Ren, the former general manager of Birmingham City, the club Jude Bellingham played for before joining Borussia Dortmund, revealed that Bayern Munich tried to sign the young midfielder in 2020.

However, it was Borussia Dortmund who won the race to sign Jude Bellingham. Xuandong Ren revealed that Bayern Munich tried to increase his offer for Bellingham at the last minute, but the youngster opted to join Borussia Dortmund.

“The day he wanted to sign for Dortmund, I received a call from his father asking me to postpone the transfer. Bayern tried to increase the offer at the last minute. They offered him so much money,” Xuandong Ren told Mundo Deportivo.

“He chose Dortmund and not Bayern, even if he doesn’t win trophies or earn as much money. He put his development above all else. How many players would do that?“

Since signing for Borussia Dortmund, Jude Bellingham has made 112 appearances for the Bundesliga team and scored 19 goals.

He has been a fixture in the Borussia Dortmund lineup in the 22/23 season. Bellingham has featured 22 games for the German team so far this season. He has also had nine goals and three assists for them in the 22/23 season.

Meanwhile, Bellingham’s current contract with Borussia Dortmund runs until the end of June 2025.
