Enzo Fernández: Benfica have denied comments by their president, Rui Costa, that they will let Fernández leave the club if his release clause is met.
Enzo Fernández has been linked with a move away from Benfica in the upcoming January transfer window following his stellar performances for the Argentina national soccer team at the 2022 FIFA World Cup.
Several clubs are reportedly interested in acquiring the services of the highly rated Argentine midfielder, who joined Benfica in the summer 2022 transfer window.

DAZN quoted Benfica manager Rui Costa as saying that they will let Enzo Fernández leave the club if his release clause is met.
Benfica has now denied Rui Costa’s comments. The Portuguese team insists that Rui Costa never said the words that are circulating and stressed that Enzo Fernández is not for sale.
“SL Benfica clarifies that at no time did the president of the Club, Rui Costa, pronounce the words that are being broadcast in Italy by DAZN,” Benfica said in an official statement.
Sport Lisboa e Benfica reiterates its intention to have the player Enzo Fernández until the end of the season.
Meanwhile, Enzo Fernández has a contract until 2027 with Benfica. That means the 21-year-old Argentine has more than four years left on the contract he signed in the summer of 2022.
In the midst of speculation that links him to leaving Benfica, the coach of the Portuguese team, Roger Schmidt, insisted that he will respect the decision made by Enzo Fernández regarding his future.
Reports have said that Enzo Fernández has a release clause of 120 million euros in his contract with Benfica. That means clubs interested in Fernández’s services could trigger the release clause to land the highly-rated midfielder.
Meanwhile, Enzo Fernández has been largely impressive for Benfica so far in the 22/23 season. The 21-year-old has three goals and five assists in 24 appearances for Benfica in all competitions in the 22/23 season.
