Liverpool forward Bobby Firmino confirms injury return date

Liverpool have reacted well to the injuries suffered by Diogo Jota, Luis Díaz and Bobby Firmino by signing another high-quality striker in Cody Gakpo.

However, it looks like the Dutch international will have more competition on his hands ahead of the new year and the last of the trio is likely to return to first-team football when they take on Brentford on 2 January.

“I am already cured, thank God. I’ll probably train tomorrow,” the former Hoffenheim hitman told talkSPORT (via Metro). “So if all is well, I won’t be ready for the next game, but for the next one. So all great.”

The 31-year-old’s contract currently expires in 2023, although a positive turnaround for him this season could still extend his terms, particularly after positive comments from Jurgen Klopp on the matter.

As long as such an arrangement doesn’t get in the way of new additions to the team in the next two windows, you’d be hard-pressed to find many fans willing to write Firmino off any time soon.

With 13 goal contributions (nine goals, four assists) in 21 appearances for Liverpool in 2022/23, our number 9 has shown that he is still more than capable of providing the firepower to compete with our most prolific attackers.

That’s never been our striker’s main selling point, of course, though it becomes more notable considering the fact that we’re moving away from the old model of a sit-in-place link that Darwin Nunez seems to have taken for his own.
