Manchester United “at the forefront” of the queue for World Cup winner Enzo Fernandez – Man United News And Transfer News

Despite strengthening their midfield in the summer with the addition of two superstars, Manchester United remain interested in improving their midfield.

There have been ongoing links with the likes of Erik ten Hag’s favorite midfielder Frenkie de Jong, as well as England superstar Jude Bellingham.

The World Cup ensured that Argentina’s Enzo Fernández is now the most popular property in world soccer, and naturally the Red Devils have been linked to a move.

Enzo, a demanded player

According to Correio da Manhã, United are “ready to pay” to sign the Benfica ace as the race for his transfer intensifies.

As previously reported, many Premier League clubs are seeking the 21-year-old’s signature. Liverpool have been mentioned as possible suitors, while Chelsea are also in the running.

However, his release clause is 120 million euros, which will be almost impossible for clubs to pay in January. Recent reports had even suggested that, despite the price tag, United had moved ahead of the race.

The report mentions that the super agent, Jorge Mendes, has been “collecting” proposals and is trying to ensure that his client moves to England.

While Benfica would like to keep the jewel in their crown, if a club were to pay the clause in full and the player was willing to move, there is nothing the Portuguese giants can do.

Benfica are all but resigned to losing their midfield wizard, but there is a growing belief within the club that they will break the record set by the departure of João Félix in 2019, when he earned €126m.

Big money movement will happen soon

Another Record outlet mentioned that it is only a matter of time before Mendes arrives with an offer of 120 million euros. They also mention that club president Rui Costa will be presented with a “crazy offer” for the World Cup winner.

Interestingly, they added that Benfica already received a €100m offer from an unidentified party for the 21-year-old, which was immediately rejected.

Even more surprising, O Jogo has revealed that Costa has already received two proposals for €127m and is awaiting offers in the region of €130m.

While Fernández’s departure is ‘inevitable’, Benfica are already working to replace him with Racing Club de Avellaneda midfielder Carlos Alcaraz, a potential option.
