Jeff Stelling believes Maddison transfer could help Leeds sign striker in January

According to Jeff Stelling, Leeds United could sign Chris Wood on a loan deal if James Maddison leaves for Newcastle United.

While Jesse Marsch struggles to achieve consistent goals for his club, Eddie Howe’s Newcastle side sit second in the Premier League standings.

With just a few days to go until the January transfer window opens, it wouldn’t be surprising to see both Newcastle and Leeds get a bit busy as they each pursue different Premier League goals.

“For something like this to happen (Newcastle signing Maddison), the players would have to leave St James’ Park,” Stelling said.

“There is speculation that Chris Wood could be considered excess baggage, which is an unfair phrase because he’s been great for them and then maybe he’ll be allowed to go to Leeds on loan.”
