Raphael Varane and Luke Shaw the centre back pairing vs Nottingham Forest – Man United News And Transfer News

Raphael Varane is a surprising inclusion in Manchester United’s starting line-up against Nottingham Forest tonight.

The Frenchman appeared in the World Cup final, and appeared to be injured, so his return was expected to take longer.

He partners with Luke Shaw at the heart of United’s defence.

Another surprise inclusion is Tyrell Malacia, who replaces Shaw at left-back with Victor Lindelof a surprising absentee.

On the other hand, Antony returns on the right flank, with Marcus Rashford switching back to the left and Alejandro Garnacho coming down to the bench.

David de Gea unsurprisingly returns in goal after Martin Dubravka’s rare encounter against Burnley last week.

Scott McTominay is withdrawn entirely, suggesting illness or injury, and Casemiro returns to his usual position in midfield.

Against Burnley, the Brazilian was used as a makeshift centre-back.

The remaining positions have not changed, with Aaron Wan-Bissaka at right-back, Christian Eriksen alongside Casemiro, Bruno Fernandes ahead of them in 10th place and Anthony Martial up front.

Tom Heaton, Rhys Bennett, Harry Maguire, Brandon Williams, Fred, Donny van de Beek, Zidane Iqbal, Anthony Elanga join Garnacho on the bench.

Here, then, is tonight’s confirmed lineup:
