Chelsea and Liverpool may not sign primary targets in January

After a disappointing start to the season by their usual standards, Chelsea and Liverpool could look for reinforcements in January.

A manager change hasn’t changed Chelsea’s fortunes so far, and Liverpool aren’t even close to where many expected them to be this season.

As we look towards the January transfer window, both clubs could be looking for reinforcements in the market, but the winter window is never easy, especially after a World Cup tournament.

Now, former Liverpool striker Stan Collymore has had his say on whether he thinks both clubs will invest heavily during the January transfer window, speaking exclusively to CaughtOffside.

“What I can’t see is Chelsea or Liverpool trying to sign their main targets as they could be expensive. Potter now has a new technical director to work with who will come up with ideas, but these big transfers don’t usually happen in January. The selling club does not want to lose its players and the buying club is asked to pay a premium.

I’ve heard a lot from Liverpool that the players are confident they can put together a career similar to the one they produced during the pandemic. For Liverpool and Chelsea, I don’t think they have to do much with the team they have to get to the Champions League places.”

Clubs are reluctant to let their players leave in the middle of the season, and if they do, it is often at a significant price.

Despite being desperate to move up the table, waiting until the summer transfer window might be your best bet to find the best deals.
