Erik ten Hag has ‘an in’ with Manchester United target Jeremie Frimpong – Man United News And Transfer News

One thing that new Manchester United manager Erik ten Hag has stood out for is his talent identification and that trait has helped the club start the season strong.

They are currently fifth in the Premier League, three points out of fourth place with one game to go and are also through to the quarter-finals of the EFL Cup.

The summer transfer window saw the Dutchman get his first chance to shake up the existing squad and mold it in his own image and the former Ajax boss did just that.

Right-back search

He brought in two defenders, two midfielders and a winger and despite the big outlay, they have all proven to be real game changers.

That’s why when he informed the club that he needed a new right-back to give him competition and reduce Diogo Dalot’s workload, the club agreed to investigate the matter in January.

The bitter departure of Cristiano Ronaldo could have changed the scene and the club’s priorities, but the need to hire a full-back remains.

Aaron Wan-Bissaka, despite his performance at Burnley, appears to be on the verge of going out and that is likely to help the manager in his search for a more successful right-back.

Quite a few names have been mentioned as targets for the 20-time English champions and Jeremie Frimpong’s name is also on that list.

Journalist Steve Bates has told GiveMeSport that the Red Devils are “watching” the Bayer Leverkusen defender and that his nationality could give United an advantage.

It has not been surprising to see that, with the exception of Casemiro, all four permanent arrivals have had a Dutch connection. Ten Hag has fair knowledge of Frimpong’s ability.

The Dutch Frimpong Connection

“She speaks English perfectly; he grew up here, and he’s Dutch, so Ten Hag has one, let’s just say that.

“And I think he will certainly be on United’s shortlist,” Bates said in an interview with GMS.

Transfer expert Fabrizio Romano had revealed that Frimpong’s price tag is around £25m and that the 22-year-old “would be very interested” in a move to Old Trafford.

The speed trader has registered five goals and three assists in 21 appearances in all competitions and his performances led to him being named in the Dutch World Cup squad.
